10. The Untouchables (1987)

This movie directed by Brian De Palma is one of the best gangster movie ever made. A government agent named Eliot Ness is sent to Chicago during Prohibition to stop Al Capone from selling alcohol. Despite is intelligence, Kevin Costner as Ness failed capturing Capone because a lot of the policemen were corrupted. He finally choose a small but incorruptible team to catch the ''boss of Chicago''. The acting is briliant: Robert De Niro steals every scenes he appeared in as Capone and Sean Connery also gives a larger than life performance. The movie nominated for 4 Academy Awards including Best Costume design, Best Art Direction and Best Score for Ennio Morricone music. Sean Connery won the only Oscar representing the film as Jim Malone, an exceptional incorruptible policemen in the category Best Actor in A Supporting Role.
9- Taxi Driver (1976)

This drama directed by Martin Scorsese was one of the first movie to talk about the effect of the Vietnam war on the soldiers. Travis Bickle is a U.S Marine that had been discharged and have insomnia problems. He decided to become a taxi driver at night because he can't even sleep and has no friend or family in Manhattan, New York. He tried to save a teenager prostitute from her pimp in the process... This movie is great from the beginning until the end. This movie is the second collaboration between Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese and one of the best. The movie also starred Harvey Keitel and a young Jodie Foster as a teen prostitute. The movie won the Palme d'Or and was nominated for 4 Academy Awards including Best Actor for De Niro, Best Actress In A Supporting Role for Foster, Best Music and Best Picture. Scorsese still choose an excellent jazz soundtrack that perfectly fits the yellow taxis of New York.
8- One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

McMurphy(Jack Nicholson) is sent to a mental institution for evaluation. Accused of statutory rape on a 15 years old girl, he's happy to escape his short sentence and labor of prison in the hospital. He met Nurse Ratched, played by Louise Fletcher, a nurse more consider as a dictator and tried to change some rules. He becomes the leader and success in giving other patients self confidence. He also shows his new friends liberty notions and how they lost them in the institution. Consider as one of the greatest american film, this masterpiece was directed by Milos Forman. Nominated for 9 Academy Awards, the movie won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress for Louise Fletcher and Best Actor for Jack Nicholson. It is the second movie to win the 5 major awards after It Happened One Night in 1934 and the last before The Silence Of The Lamb(1991).
7. Forrest Gump (1994)

Forrest Gump is a low I.Q. man with good intentions. Extraordinary events happens in his life but he never seems to become aware of them. Has a child, he needed to wear leg braces so he became the target of bullies. He finally find he could run very fast and, despite his below-average intelligence, he gets to the university. He got into the football team and he meets president John F. Kennedy, He meet his best and only friend Jenny and immediately fall in love with her. The movie based on 1986 Winston Groom book goes through United States landmarks between year 1944 and 1982. The movie wich features Tom Hanks as the main character nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won 6 of them including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Visual Effects.
6. No Country For Old Men (2007)

Based on Cormac McCarty novel, this movie was written and directed by the Coen brothers. It features Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem as the main characters.In 1980 in Texas a man finds 2 millions dollars on a crime scene. A hitman hire to find that money is chasing him all around the country. A sheriff is after them. Nothing but death will stop them chasing their goal. No music is used during this two hours full of adrenalin which help builds a stressful atmosphere. This thriller used ambient noise such prairie wind as key element to build an ambiance proper to landscape. This masterpiece was nominate for eight Academy Awards and won 6 of them including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh succeed creating a fearless psychopath character. Help by a very good script by the Coen brothers, Bardem receive a well deserve Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and became the first Spanish actor to won an Oscar.
